Domains of activity: arts and culture.

Formally established as a Not-for-profit organisation in Bonn, Germany in 2003.

Mission: The European Music Council contributes to a better mutual understanding among people and their different cultures, and for the right for all musical cultures to coexist. Therefore it provides exceptional value to its members by building knowledge; creating networking opportunities; supporting and enhancing the visibility of initiatives that help sustain people's participation in music and cultural life. 

Membership in other European networks: Culture Action Europe (CAE), Member of the Culture Sector Platforms “Access to Culture”, “Potential of Creative and Culture Industries”, Regional Group for Europe of the International Music Council.

Collaboration with organisations in other countries: Through our diverse membership we collaborate with organisations from over 29 European countries (not only in the EU, but also in Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkey, etc.)

Interest/involvement in European and EU political matters: 

  • EU: Interest and involvement with the European political sector is mainly to serve our members and provide information on what is going on at the EU level.
  • In general the European Music Council believes that through international cooperation and interaction mutual understanding among peoples and their different cultures may lead to a peaceful Europe. The protection and promotion of musical diversity and the right for all musical cultures to coexist is one of the main endeavours of the EMC.
